Defence Services Asia (DSA) to witness a game changer for CBRN decontamination and infection control from Scott Safety
Respiratory protection and decontamination experts Scott Safety (www.scottsafety.com/emea) will showcase a game changer for CBRN decontamination at Defence Services Asia (DSA) 2016 (18th to 21st April 2016, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia). Visit the UK Pavilion (Hall 4, Booth 4012C), to witness a new portable airborne and surface decontamination solution which is achieving a Military, Civil Defence and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response first – chemical, biological and radiological decontamination in as little as five minutes.
A manufacturer of respiratory protection for the UK Ministry of Defence, Scott Safety has been at the forefront of CBRN defence and civil protection for over 80 years. The company has its Asia Pacific Headquarters and ANZ support hub in Sydney and its ASEAN service and support hub in Singapore.
The Light Decontamination System (LDS) utilises Scott Safety’s new atomisation technology to create a fine mist to ensure even and consistent coverage and haptic dry surfaces. The system is capable of delivering CBRN decontaminants and disinfectants to all non-line of sight surfaces, rapidly projecting a dense and turbulent mist that reaches airborne and surface threats simultaneously.
LDS can decontaminate environments as large as 500m³. At 22 kg, it is the lightest portable decontamination system in its class, enabling rapid decontamination of equipment, personnel, infrastructure and terrain.
Compatible with a range of facemasks, including Scott’s suite of respirators, LDS is lightweight and portable enough to be used in a wide range of hazard management and disaster response scenarios e.g. critical and iconic infrastructure, high rise conurbations, subway systems, airports, hospitals including field hospitals, temporary mortuaries, portable isolation units, storage facilities, air transport and ships holds, multiple types of vehicles and a wide range of interiors.
Flexible and scalable, Scott Safety’s decontamination solution can be adapted for large scale infrastructure when longer duration or wider area decontamination of up to 2000m³ is required.
The company will also be promoting the Scott Patriot 5510. Scott Patriot offers multiple breathing options to the first responder (via filter canisters or air cylinders, integrated with the Scott First Responder Respirator – the ‘FRR’). The powerpack supports telemetry, GPS, a range of detection solutions, command and team situational awareness and operator safety features.
Full telemetry provides secure data to fellow responders and the command centre. The responder’s location, position (moving, static or prone), body temperature, pulse, breathing rate can all be monitored, as well as battery life and cylinder levels. Exothermic cutting equipment can be incorporated giving the responder an additional breaching or exit capability. Finally, one cylinder can be configured to rescue a ‘man down’ or for VIP extraction. All of these features provide multi-functionality, situational awareness and operator safety when the situation may be complex and life threatening.
